Pilot Project

With funding from Hyndburn Borough Council, Accrington Music Association developed a pilot project that brought together two primary schools, one high school and three community dance schools.

St Andrew's Primary School and Hyndburn Park Primary School and Mount Carmel High School had workshops with David Aspin, Principal Viola with Opera North and created new pieces of performance using Sir Harrison Birtwistle's composition techniques as inspiration.

KTZ Dance Academy, ReAct Academy and Dance Syndrome were each given a piece of Sir Birtwistle's music as inspiration and told they could interpret it in whatever way they wanted.

The groups then came together for an evening of celebratory sharing which was hosted by Mount Carmel students who achieved their Silver/Gold Arts Award through the project.
